Pronunciation

A speaking trait in PTE's automated scoring that measures how intelligible your speech is — whether vowels, consonants and word stress are produced clearly enough for the algorithms to recognise the words. Pronunciation is about being understood, not sounding like a native speaker; PTE accepts a wide range of accents. Like oral fluency, pronunciation stopped appearing as an 'enabling skill' on score reports in November 2021 and now informs the Skills Profile visible only to the test taker, while continuing to shape the Speaking score on the 10–90 scale.

In plain language

Aim for clear, stress-accurate speech the machine can transcribe — accent doesn't matter, but mumbled or flat delivery does.
