Glossary term

Content

A scoring trait used across PTE speaking and writing tasks that measures how well your response covers the ideas in the prompt or source material. In Summarize Written Text, content depends on capturing the passage's main point within a single sentence of 5–75 words; in the 200–300-word essay, on addressing the question fully; in Summarize Spoken Text, on reflecting the key points of the recording in 50–70 words (20–30 on PTE Core). Content is assessed by the automated scoring system alongside traits such as form, grammar and vocabulary.

In plain language

Answer what's actually asked and include the main ideas — a beautifully written response that misses the point scores poorly on content.
