PTE Core

Pearson's general English test, designed for migration and work routes rather than academic study — most prominently Canadian immigration, where IRCC converts PTE Core scores to Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) levels, reading each skill separately. Core uses the same 10–90 Global Scale of English and automated scoring as PTE Academic but has 19 task types; the August 2025 update that took Academic to 22 left Core unchanged. Some tasks differ in scale too: Summarize Spoken Text requires 20–30 words on Core against 50–70 on Academic. Results follow the same typical 48-hour turnaround.
