Concordance (PTE to IELTS)
The concordance is Pearson’s official study mapping PTE Academic overall scores to IELTS Academic bands, published in July 2025 for the enhanced PTE Academic. It is based on candidates who sat both tests and is the table institutions use when they publish a PTE requirement alongside an IELTS one.

What the study is and is not
Pearson’s July 2025 concordance replaced earlier tables after the August 2025 changes to PTE Academic. It maps overall scores only; it does not claim that a PTE Speaking 70 equals an IELTS Speaking 7.0, and institutions that need per-skill equivalents publish their own. It is a statistical relationship between two different tests, so a candidate’s real scores on both can differ from the table.
Because PTE is a points scale and IELTS a half-band scale, each IELTS band corresponds to a range of PTE points. The bottom of each range is where the band starts.
Using it for requirements
When a requirement is written in IELTS terms and the institution publishes no PTE figure, read the bottom of the range: 7.0 is 63, 6.5 is 55, 8.0 is 79. Most institutions do publish a PTE figure, and it is often at or slightly above the concordance floor; that figure governs.
The finer scale can help a borderline candidate. A 65 is a clear pass of a 63 floor where an IELTS candidate at 6.5 has no half-step to reach 7.0. The score calculator applies the table to your four skill scores and shows the CEFR level as well.

Worked example
A postgraduate programme lists IELTS 7.0 with 6.5 in each component and no PTE figure. The concordance floor for 7.0 is 63 and for 6.5 is 55, so a PTE report of 66 overall with every skill at 58 meets the overall reading and is comfortably above the component floor. Confirming with admissions is still worth an email, because some programmes set PTE figures above the concordance.

What PTE score is equivalent to IELTS 7?

Does the concordance apply to PTE Core?
No. The July 2025 study maps PTE Academic to IELTS Academic. PTE Core has its own official equivalency to Canadian Language Benchmarks published by IRCC and Pearson, read skill by skill.
Are per-skill PTE scores mapped to IELTS component bands?
Not in the published concordance, which maps overall scores. Institutions that require IELTS component minimums usually publish the PTE per-skill figures they accept, often at the same points as the overall floor.
