CEFR

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, a six-level scale (A1–C2) used across Europe and beyond to describe language ability. Because PTE reports on the 10–90 Global Scale of English, which Pearson aligns to the CEFR, a PTE score can be read loosely against CEFR levels: lower-middle scores correspond broadly to B1, middle scores to B2 and high scores to C1. Visa systems increasingly speak CEFR — the UK's Skilled Worker route requires B2 from 8 January 2026, and PTE Home tests are pitched at A1, A2 and B1.
