How do PTE Core scores convert to CLB levels?

IRCC uses an official equivalency chart that reads each skill separately — for example CLB 9 requires Listening 82–88, Reading 78–87, Speaking 84–88 and Writing 88–89. There is no averaging: your profile is whatever level every skill clears.

Why does one low skill cap my whole CLB level?

Because IRCC requires the minimum in every single skill, not on average. If three skills sit at CLB 9 but Speaking is CLB 7, programs that ask for CLB 8 or 9 read your profile as CLB 7 — which is why the calculator headlines your lowest skill.

What CLB level do I need for Canadian immigration?

Each program sets its own minimum, so check the IRCC requirement for your specific stream before booking. For Canadian citizenship the language requirement is CLB 4 or higher in speaking and listening — PTE Core Speaking 42+ and Listening 28+ — and citizenship language results never expire.
